Thank you for your interest in participating in LA Promise Fund’s Black Student STEAM Success Program (Black S³). Black S³ was created to give Black students a stronger foundation in math and science. By incorporating elements such as math and science tutoring, personal advising, internships, and a summer program to prepare students for college-level coursework, BCS hopes to create a model to help inspire, recruit, and promote great persistence for Black students from South Los Angeles and surrounding areas. Our hope is that our Black students will pursue undergraduate and graduate degrees in STEAM fields so they can take on leadership positions in the workforce.

Black S³ is an in-person STEAM program sponsored by BCS that aims to close the readiness gap Black students face when they step on college/university campuses. 100 students in total will be selected to participate in this groundbreaking educational experience.

The program begins in Spring with the goal of reinforcing math, science, and personal development concepts through work-based learning projects in partnership with USC's Viterbi School of Engineering K-12 STEM center, Glad Academies, and other industry partners. The purpose of this in-person programming is to bring the principles and concepts of STEAM to life through workshops led by leading industry professionals.

At the completion of the spring programming (February 1, 2025 – May 10, 2025) students will transition to Black S³’s two-week on-campus experience at USC. Students will live on USC’s campus and focus on reinforcing math and science concepts to enhance their success in their transition into college, and participate in project-based activities and career pathway opportunities (STEAM internships, scholarships and career exposure).

All program participants will be housed on campus in a USC dormitory. All meals will be provided by USC on campus dining.
